surf and yoga in spain

This year is about doing the things I enjoy, meeting new people, travelling to new places and embracing adventure.

Surfing is something I've always loved and wanted to learn how to do properly. I also love yoga so when I came across a holiday that included doing both, I booked it straight away. I went with a surf travel agency called Errant Surf. They are based in Cornwall where they run surf schools but also offer surf and yoga holidays in some great destinations including South Africa and Costa Rica. I signed up for the surf trip to northern Spain. It cost around £300 for one week including accommodation (shared room) surf lessons, equipment, photos, yoga lessons, breakfast & lunch and loads of free stuff. Absolute bargain! Oh, and the flights were only £60 return. I should go on holiday during term time more often.

Our accommodation for the week was here at Latas Surf house in Somo. A great location close to the city of Santander and only a five minute walk from beautiful beaches.

The trip had a really laid back vibe which I loved. We surfed twice a day, once with instructors and then a group surf in the afternoon. The evenings were spent doing yoga, enjoying the sunset and beers on the beach and exploring the local towns. Optional trips were also arranged including a brewery tour and sunset boat trip (booze cruise!) and a Halloween party.

Yoga sessions took place daily either at sunrise or sunset with Jasmine. I don't have many photos of the yoga as its hard to take pictures when you're in downward dog! Jasmine is a great yoga teacher. She has a very calm and soothing approach and assisted people with postures if they were struggling (baby grasshopper!!) The yoga sessions really helped with the aches and pains from 4 hours of surfing each day. The head massage during savasana was a nice touch too. If you are ever in the Newquay area then go along to one of Jasmine's classes, you can find her on Facebook here.

If you want to learn to surf with some great instructors then you should definitely check out some of the trips that Errant Surf have to offer. They are currently taking bookings for another week in Spain in May. I'm tempted by some of their other destinations...Bali is on my list of new countries to visit next year.

A big thanks to Max, Will and the rest of the team for a great week!
Namaste x
